This week’s tour

I’m sitting in the van about an hour outside Boston on day two of the Arc in Round tour. We had a killer time last night in Brooklyn at Death By Audio. Gavin and Edon at the venue were great to us, and there was a nice crowd for a Sunday night. Openers Long Distance Poison started the night with a single synth drone piece wrangled out of their Octave CAT, Juno 60, Realistic MG1, JX-3P, Arp Omni, and DSI Mopho synths (yes, that’s all from memory, and I’m a nerd!). Beige took the stage next, and really killed it with their drum machine driven atmospheric krautpop.

Tonight we meet up with Kurt Vile and Woods at Brighton Music Hall in Boston. Come out and see us if we’re near you and don’t forget to head to arcinround.bandcamp.com for the II EP which is still currently pay what you want! More to come…

So all of a sudden I’m getting all this new gear..

Whew. A windfall month working on a play at Philadelphia Theater Company has allowed me to upgrade many pieces of my studio.

First thing is a new/old PowerMac G5 tower with Dual 1.8gHz processors and 4 gigs of ram. Recording and mixing now clips along like the computer barely even notices plugins and other processing. An AudioTechnica 4033 mic came in, and some patchbays are en route.

The biggest gap in my setup has been nice preamps, and by a stroke of luck, I stumbled across a stupidly amazing deal on a recording console which will completely revolutionize the way I track and mix. It is a Peavey AMR 2400 console, with 36 mic inputs, 24 busses. I will basically be able to track an orchestra live if the need arises! I can’t wait to pick it up and clean it up. More details and photos wil be posted under a new “Studio” heading on this page.

Arc in Round touring with Kurt Vile, Woods

I can now announce that Arc in Round will be opening for Kurt Vile and Woods this July. Dates are below:

7/11: BRIGHTON MUSIC HALL, BOSTON, MA
7/12: LA SALA ROSSA, MONTREAL, QU
7/13: LEE’S PALACE, TORONTO, ON
7/14: GROG SHOP, CLEVELAND, OH
7/15: RUSSIAN RECORDING, BLOOMINGTON, IN

We are super psyched to be playing these shows! We also have another EP coming soon featuring a few new songs and a remix of “II” by A Sunny Day in Glasgow!

See you in a month, Indie Rock.

Dear international indie rock touring circuit – I will not be mixing your band at Kung Fu Necktie or Johnny Brenda’s until after June 12th.  The wealthier theater geeks need me at Philly Theater Company for a few weeks.   When I return, I’ll be preparing to go on the road as the opener AND mixer for a tour to be announced later today…

Live set broadcasts 5/12 6-10pm

We had a really fun time this past Saturday recording a live Arc in Round set for Y-Rock on WXPN’s local internet and satellite radio show The Key.  John Vettese did a great job recording and interviewing us.  The show will be available for stream and download on The Key’s site next week, and will be broadcast on John’s show between 6 and 10pm Thursday, May 12th.

Hot Guts LP Teaser – “Heater Beauty”

Recently completed mix for a forthcoming Hot Guts LP!  We recorded the basic tracks and vocals at Uniform Recording, and did a bunch of overdubs and all mixing here at Cross and Sickle.  (This track has not been mastered yet, so it’s a little quiet.  Crank it!)
